Multiple bus initiators and Arbitration

Protocols are ways that the various devices cooperate nicely to take control of the bus in an orderly fashion so their signals do not get confused. They do this via several wires: bus request wires, bus grant wires, and bus busy wires. An S-R latch can be used to build a simple arbiter circuit which grants bus initiator privileges in a fair manner. We also discuss bus transactions, which are fundamental units of communication over a bus.
