Timing Considerations

The disparity in speed between the CPU and peripheral devices is investigated in this section. Since the CPU is so much faster, it may waste a great deal of time just waiting for the peripheral to do something. This gives rise to multiprogramming, which lets the CPU work on another program while an I/O operation is working.
